The refactoring workflow you describe with Claude Code is exactly where I've gotten the biggest gains too. I ended up packaging my most-used workflows into reusable skills so Claude follows the same process every time without me re-explaining. Cut my setup time to basically zero for repeat tasks. Wrote up the patterns here: https://reading.sh/i-built-200-claude-code-skills-heres-the-pattern-2c9669e4a71a?sk=dcf4e7939bec49686f54d69813eae51d

Good rundown. One you might want to check out is OpenCode. It fills a gap between Claude Code and Codex CLI; you get the agentic multi-file workflow but without being locked to a single provider. I've been using it for everything from commits to deployments and wrote up the full setup: https://reading.sh/the-definitive-guide-to-opencode-from-first-install-to-production-workflows-aae1e95855fb
